Food and Technology

Students learn about the nature of food and how to store, prepare and work with it safely and hygienically to produce food items of a high standard. Students investigate the characteristics and properties of food and apply the most appropriate cooking methods in their food preparation.
In Unit 2 students work with a design brief and research and implement solutions to the brief. Unit 3 develops an understanding of food safety regulations in Australia, cooking techniques, food processing and preservation techniques. Food product development and emerging trends is the focus for unit 4, where students work independently to implement the design plan that they have established in unit 3.

Students and staff have enjoyed considerable success in this area of the curriculum, with excellent standards resulting perfect VCE scores and the designs of many students being selected in the VCE Top Designs Exhibition.
